Yes - We are not tied to any Water Treatment industry manufacturer or supplier. We are NOT associated with EcoWater Systems LLC in any way. We do however stick to a number of known brands and products that we have detailed experience and history with, in the main for their quality and reliability reasons.
Most Water Softener suppliers and installers are aligned to one or two manufacturers. This allows manufacturers to manage geographical areas and keep pricing structures rigid or non competitive. The selected dealers / distributors are incentivised to sell more of one kind of unit compared to another, often gaining more margin or profit with the larger number of sales. We know, we tried it for a few years in the early days of Ashwell Water Softeners and it did not work for us.
There are five core factors that influence the life of a water softener - in the main, component age (deteriation, rubber seals cracking / shrinking) and the amount of water having passed through the unit defines when a water softener requires replacement. The water quality (& incoming water hardness) and the water pressure also impact performance and the life of any unit. Most water softeners can be recycled or refurbished. In a number of instances this is not always a cost effective solution, as the cost of rebuilding an older unit outwieghs the cost of a new modern replacement or a modern replacement unit is far more efficient than that of the original older design.
Typically we would expect a decent quality water softener to last in the region of 15 - 17 years with normal family use (as per design) and with some form of proactive servicing.
In the main YES - This type of water softener regenerates / cleans itself through based on the amount of / the volume of water passing through the unit. Sized correctly for you usage needs, these are the most efficient water softeners in terms of waste water and salt consumption. Cheaper timer based units regenerate / clean themselves through at a fixed time e.g. every 3 days - this is irrespective of whether the amount of water has exceeded the units capacity or if you have only consumed 1 litre of water.
We are extremely proud of this unit. Our Eco Water Softener has evolved over the past 5 years (since 2013) and been specifically developed for modern UK households - the main focus being on efficiency and environmentally friendly performance / Eco credentials.
At 2900 litres of softening capacity at 300ppm this 15 litre resin unit can cope with most modern houses including those with larger families or those with larger than average water consumption - it adapts to your households needs making the most of its AMAZING 2900 litres of softening capacity between regenerations. The performance means that you will be using approx. 1/3 less waste water and approx. 3/4 of the salt when compared to its nearest rival. Dare to compare - Our Eco Water Softener unit will use less waste water and salt when compared to any comparable water softener on the UK Market, in the main as the unit softens more water and regenerates /cleans itself through less often than other Water softeners.
If you are on a water meter, environmentally conscious or just working out the whole life cost of a water softener this unit will beat almost any other domestic unit on the market.
We use a standard high quality & reliable industry metered valve, a specialist digital valve control and a standard housing but use a cutting edge high grade ION exchange resin mix in the filter, this combined with custom control settings and cleverly re-engineered porting that optimises the whole system. Our resin mix is the Rolls Royce of resins with the performance of a Porsche, the resin secret lies within its design and optimised graded sizing allowing unprecidented softening capacity. Simply put, our Eco range soften more hard water and regenerate less often hence the eco numbers are quite simple.... As an example: for a typical family of four, our Eco unit will use an average of 75 litres of water per week (regenerating) compared to its nearest same sized competitor using approx. 110 litres of waste water per week.
Our AWS Eco Water Softener Unit is also WRAS listed (WRAS - Water Regulations Advisory Scheme). The purpose of WRAS is to contribute to the protection of public health by preventing contamination of public water supplies and encouraging the efficient use of water by promoting and facilitating compliance with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations and Scottish Water Byelaws.
